Why I Love Terracotta Orange

Terracotta Orange isn’t just one of my favorite thread colors—it’s part of the heart of Sew & Saw Studio. This warm, earthy shade reminds me of breathtaking sunsets and sunrises, the majestic arches carved by time, weathered clay pots welcoming friends from a front porch, and the rich centers of flowers reaching toward the sun. It’s a color that asks you to slow down, take a deep breath, and notice the beauty that’s been there all along.

I love using Terracotta Orange on autumn quilts, rustic home décor, floral designs, southwest-inspired projects, wildlife scenes, and quilts that tell a story. It pairs beautifully with sage greens, warm creams, deep blues, rich browns, golden yellows, and countless earth tones, creating quilts that feel warm, welcoming, and full of life.

When I quilt with this color, I’m reminded that everything we create carries a little bit of our own energy. Every stitch becomes a quiet thank-you for the time we invested.  We share our creativity and the love we stitch into something that once didn’t exist.  Our hands brought it to life.

Terracotta reminds me of the sunrise, gently encouraging us to begin something amazing.

It reminds me of the sunset, quietly watching over the day as it comes to a close.

It stands proudly like the cliffs and arches that have weathered countless seasons, reminding us that beauty grows stronger with time.
